When we lead tours at the Grandin Press we tell how the Book of Mormon was first printed. We explain that the workers set the type in a “chase” sixteen pages at a time. They called the sixteen page section a “signature.”
Once as I explained the process, I showed a signature and said that it held sixteen pages and that there are 37 signatures in the first edition of the Book of Mormon. A little boy, about 8 years old, immediately said, “592.” I figured he meant that the book was 592 pages.
After the family left I used the calculator app on my iPhone to check—he was correct!
